After plunking down around $630 for wood + stain and spending my free time over the past 4 weeks, I've finished building my own Pottery Barn style
Farmhouse bed frame. I ended up using cherry for everything except the trim along the top and bottom of the side rails which is alder (poor man's cherry). I had initially planned to use mahogany, but quickly changed my mind after borrowing someone's truck and driving 40 minutes to a wood store in Seattle that was about to close in 10 minutes and ended up not having a large enough block of mahogany.
I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I also like that I saved almost $1,000.
